Veterans Serve as Role Models for Troubled Valley Students
MCALLEN – A Rio Grande Valley veteran who is years removed from serving says his work still isn’t complete.
Octaviano Beltran gave 23 years of service to the U.S., in three different branches of the military.
Now, he and two other veterans work at Instruction and Guidance Center, where children are sent after getting into trouble at school. The alternative education program tries to get students on the right path before sending them back.
On Monday, Beltran and the other veterans raised the U.S. flag for the school’s Veterans Day presentation.
A student at the center says having three veterans to learn from helps you right your wrongs.
