EDINBURG – Construction crews are working day and night to finish Bert Ogden Arena. Once complete, it’ll be the newest and biggest entertainment venue in South Texas.

“We’ve had a few little re-designs on it,” said Bert Ogden Arena CEO Marc Solis. “Kind of delayed us at some points, but the reality is, it’s going to be well worth the wait. The amenities are really special. We’ve got 24 inches from back seat to back seat. That’s almost movie theater style.”

Luis Miguel will open the arena with a concert Friday, August 31.

While Bert Ogden Arena will be the home of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the G-League team won’t be hosting the first sporting event inside the arena.

Monday, the arena announced WWE Live has been booked for Friday, September 14.

“They got Roman Reigns coming, Braun Strowman coming,” said Solis. “Also Ronda Rousey will be here as well, a big name they just added to their lineup, another exciting card they’re going to have in store.”

Solis says the wrestling event could lead to a televised WWE show in the future. Part of the WWE’s time at the arena in September will be dedicated to analyzing the arena’s feasibility for a larger WWE production.

“We’ve been telling them that this market deserves a RAW or SmackDown,” said Solis. “Or ultimately a pay-per-view in my opinion.”

Arena officials are hopeful the size and design of the Valley’s new venue will attract a variety of sports and entertainment acts.

“From a logistical production standpoint, we’re setup to do any kind of major broadcast event from his facility,” said Solis. “From back house amenities, there’s nobody that has the number of rooms that we have available in South Texas.”
