McAllen Launches ‘Amigos Always’ Campaign

MCALLEN - A new marketing campaign out of McAllen aims to remind people of the relationship between the U.S. and Mexico.

McAllen city manager Roel Roy Rodriguez said the Reynosa Adios McAllen campaign has negatively impacted their economy. It encourages visitors to steer clear of investing any money in McAllen.

Rodriguez said the peso devaluation also affects them.

Unlike the negative sentiment coming out of Mexico, he said the city is pushing for a friendlier tone with “Amigos Always.”

“(The) welcoming feeling that they’ve always had is here, and they’re very important to us. Just like we think we’re important to them,” Rodriguez said.

The city manager said both countries should work to maintain their century–long relationship.
