MCALLEN – Two suspects in the La Plaza Mall attempted robbery last July have been sentenced.

Miguel Quintanilla and Brayan Melchor both pled guilty to five counts of aggravated robbery charges.

Quintanilla was sentenced to 14 years and a $2,500 fine.

Melchor was sentenced to 25 years and a $5,000 fine.

Three other men have also admitted their guilt in the crime; Jorge Mejia and Javier Olvera will be sentenced next week, and Alberto Barrera will be sentenced in September.

Abner Posos has pled not guilty in the case.

A status hearing for Raul Rangel has been reset for next week.

Authorities say all seven men were behind the failed smash and grab at a La Plaza Mall jewelry store.

Surveillance video shows the suspects enter the store and force a security guard to the floor.

McAllen police say no weapons were used in the incident.
