WASHINGTON, D.C. – An appeals court blocked an immigrant teen from obtaining an abortion procedure on Friday.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled the government has until Oct. 31 to release the teen to an adult sponsor.

If released to a sponsor, the teen could undergo the procedure.

She already has a state court order allowing her to have the abortion.

Federal officials refused to transport her or temporarily release her so that others may take her to have the procedure.
