Border Patrol May Face Problem Fulfilling President's Order
WESLACO – The National Guard border deployment is just one of the many changes happening now involving the nation’s Homeland Security plan.
The president wants more money to hire Border Patrol agents, but that may not be as easy as it sounds.
The problem is Border Patrol already has thousands of jobs it can’t seem to fill.
As of mid-March, there were around 1,900 agents on duty. That’s about 2,000 agents short of what there should be.
For years, the agency has struggled to maintain sufficient staffing, even before the president’s call for more agents.
