Brownsville Father, Son Killed in Crash East of Houston
BAYTOWN – An investigation is underway into a deadly accident in Baytown, east of Houston. The two people killed in the crash were a father and son from the Brownsville area.
The accident happened early Wednesday morning in Baytown.
Harris County investigators said 45-year-old Juan Vilano and his 19-year-old son were on their way to work at a nearby refinery.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS is told the father was behind the wheel when he veered into the opposite lane and hit a truck head-on.
Authorities said three people, a 13-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy and their father, were in the vehicle. They were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.
“The driver of the truck who was headed southbound said it looked like the driver headed northbound might have been going to sleep, but it all happened so fast,” said Sgt. Dennis Castanie with Harris County’s Traffic Enforcement.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said their traffic enforcement division is investigating the accident.
Investigators will be looking to confirm witness statements that Vilano may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.
