LONDON – A Rio Grande Valley native living in the United Kingdom shared his experience on Wednesday’s London attack.

Brownsville native Juan Jasso was leaving the school where he teaches when he first got the news about the London attack. He resides about 250 miles from the capital.

“This is absolutely massive when we have an attack in London. It would be like having an attack on Washington D.C. And obviously everyone would be glued to their television sets,” he said.

Jasso said he’s staying tuned to what’s happening in the evening.

“This country isn’t a stranger, unfortunately, to these sorts of incidents,” he said.

Attacks like Wednesday’s echo back to the 77 bombings in 2005 and former decades of problems with the Irish Republican Army.

Jasso said he was in London recently.

“Had it been at that time when this incident would have taken place, it may have been something that I would have been caught up in,” he said.

As British voters approved the Brexit, Jasso said emotions are tense when it comes it immigrants.

“It’s going to be interesting what happens with this and how this is used,” he said.

Londoners are continuing to learn about the events that unfolded. Police in the capital are mobilized.

Jasso said where he lives he thinks police on the transit services will also be on alert.
