Brush piles from February freeze cleared from Brownsville neighborhood
After dealing with piles of brush leftover from February’s winter storm, relief has arrived for one Brownsville neighborhood.
Brownsville resident Josephina Rivas told Channel 5 after waiting five months, the city’s contractor, Republic Services, finally removed the large brush piles along her street on Tuesday.
Rivas said she had trouble contacting the city to put in complaints about the brush. She said her frustration with elected officials and city employees was growing for many reasons, including being unable to reach her mailbox because of the large brush pile.
“[I’m] grateful to the city,” Rivas said. “[To] all the people that called. The concern was my mailbox. Now I’ll be able to get the main, [and] the packages for my kids for school.”
Republic Services said a 600-ton increase to monthly brush collection was partly responsible for the delays in pickups city-wide.
