MCALLEN – A local organization says they’ve been met with resistance when they wanted to help immigrants recently unified with their families.

A newly formed non-profit group, Angry Tias and Abuelas, has filled backpacks with toiletries, coloring books, snacks and water.

They were handing them out to immigrants at the bus station; but the city of McAllen told volunteers they prefer the donations be given to Catholic Charities out of respect for the immigrants.

The group tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS they’re willing to restructure in order to be allowed to continue to help.
