Fewer People Visiting Sacred Heart Respite Center
MCALLEN - Fewer people who cross the border illegally appear to be visiting Sacred Heart Church in McAllen. Close to one hundred people a day used to make their way to the respite center during the height of the border surge. Sister Norma Pimentel tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the number of visitors has recently dropped to fifty people a week.
Sister Pimentel started the humanitarian effort at Sacred Heart Church in June 2014. The facility became a welcome stop for many people as they entered the United States from various countries, including El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
