Gov. Abbott Sends Request to President for Disaster Declaration for Valley

WESLACO – Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter Wednesday to President Donald Trump requesting a Presidential Disaster Declaration for three Rio Grande Valley counties.

The three counties included in Abbott’s request are Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy.

The request comes after the Valley was impacted by storms that caused widespread damage.

According to the release, if the request is granted, residents will be eligible for individual assistance including Individual and Households Programs, Other Needs Assistance, Crisis Counseling, Disaster Unemployment Assistance, Disaster Legal Assistance, Disaster Case Management, Direct Federal Assistance and Hazard Mitigation.
