HARLINGEN – A teen was charged in connection with a deadly one-vehicle crash in Harlingen.

Jershaiah Gutierrez, 17, is charged with intoxication manslaughter and accident involving death.

The charges stem from an accident on the 1300 block of South Commerce Street early Wednesday morning.

Police said Gutierrez hit a light pole and a traffic control device before slamming into a palm tree.

Investigators said he fled the scene of the accident but was later found.

The passenger, 19-year-old Andres Macias, died on the way to the hospital.
