WESLACO – A local voter says a power outage kept him from casting his ballot.

Mike Pena tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he registered at the polling location in Hidalgo County but couldn’t cast his ballot so the staff offered him a provisional ballot.

Pena did not want to cast a provisional ballot so he tried to vote again the next day at a different polling location.

"They ran my ID and told me 'You already voted.' And I said, ‘No, I did not’. And they said, ‘Yeah you did,’” says Pena.

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing spoke with the Hidalgo County elections administrator, Yvonne Ramon, about the issue.

Ramon explains the provisional ballot was offered since the system had already picked up Pena as a voter.

"Provisional means pending, giving us time to research – giving us time to find that voter," says Ramon.
