MCALLEN – McAllen city officials are taking steps to make sure employees, especially those who work outside, stay cool in the summer heat.

City employees dropped by city hall Friday to cool off with a refreshing beverage in celebration of National Safety Month.

“We have a lot of employees out on the front lines that are dealing with heat on a regular basis, and the levels of heat have been really high,” McAllen Risk and Safety Management Director Yoli Perez said.

Officials started educating their employees on staying safe in the heat in February.
