MCALLEN – McAllen city officials plan to reduce traffic around the city by removing traffic lights.

The city announced the first to go will be at the intersection of Business 83 and 17th Street.

McAllen city manager Roy Rodriguez says a study showed not enough traffic passed south to 17th Street to warrant the light.

“There’s very little pedestrian traffic going north/south,” he says. “There’s a lot more going east/west, parallel to Business 83.”

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas found out this is just one of six spots they are studying.
