WESLACO – An increase in house fires is fueling concerns in the mid-Rio Grande Valley.

A total of four fire departments responded Friday morning to a structure fire off of Mile 11 and FM 1015 in Weslaco.

Officials say they seem to be happening almost daily; but, the assistance that comes from mutual aid agreements with other agencies eases their efforts.

“The weather just – the heat takes a toll on firefighters, so we wanted to make sure we had enough personnel on scene so we can rotate and limit any type of injuries,” says Weslaco Fire Chief Antonio Lopez.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
