MCALLEN--The leader of the mosque at the Islamic Society of South Texas in McAllen is reacting to Donald Trump's executive order, which bans travelers from seven predominantly Muslim nations.

Noor Ahmed talked about the court decision that allowed refugees detained at U.S. airports to reunite with families. Ahmed said the constitution has to be protected.

"These institutions are there just for this reason to take people who are in power to account and don't let them get away with things that are unconstitutional," Ahmed said.

Ahmad said he doesn't have too many families in his community who are not citizens. He adds those that have green cards achieved them the right way.

"They actually went through vetting and went through so many security measures to get to this country," he said.

Ahmad also commented on a mosque in Victoria that caught fire Saturday morning. A cause hasn't been confirmed.

"It's just taking us back to those days where churches used to be burned in the South and history is just repeating itself," he said.

However, Ahmad also said people of different religions are coming together.

"Muslims, Jews, and other community members and Catholics...we have built alliances and we're growing with those alliances," he said. "We are strong, and we are stronger together. We will be weak if we are separated."

Ahmad said he and other from the Muslim community will be heading to Austin this week to talk to officials about their concerns.
