MERCEDES – Magic Valley Electric Co-op activated its level one emergency operations plan ahead of the possible severe weather in the Rio Grande Valley.

Crews will be on standby to respond, if the electricity is knocked out.

The electric co-op supplies power to more than 97,000 homes all over the Valley.

“Our linemen, the crews that work out in the field, most of those individuals are placed on standby. Our senior management, in case we need to call other organizations for help,” said MVEC communications manager Luis Reyes.

Any storm with rain and high winds can knock out power by damaging electric lines.
