New DHS Secretary Scheduled to Tour the Valley
WESLACO – The new U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security will be in the Rio Grande Valley to tour the southern border.
Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will hold a press conference Wednesday along with the Border Patrol Acting Deputy Commissioner and Chief Patrol Agent for the Rio Grande Valley Sector Manuel Padilla.
Nielsen was confirmed as secretary on Dec. 5.
She succeeded White House Chief of Staff John Kelly in the position.
Nielsen worked as Kelly’s chief of staff at DHS and at the White House before being nominated for the position.
