DONNA –Donna officials said a new water tower, currently under construction, will add water pressure and improve fire protection for homeowners.

The new construction can be seen off Expressway 83 on the eastbound side.

Donna utility director Jonas Gonzales said the new water tower will hold one million gallons of water. He explained the city usually has water issues and expects this will help reduce the problem.

“You’re talking about half a million gallons more of storage capacity for the city, which will help pressure and, of course, fire protection. It’s very important especially in a developing area like this one,” he said.

The water tower should be complete by the end of this year.

Gonzalez said the project will not increase tax rates.
