MCALLEN - A 23-year-old woman was charged in a deadly hit-and-run over the weekend.

Elena Cristal Cavazos is facing intoxication manslaughter and accident involving injury or death charges.

The auto-pedestrian crash happened before 3 a.m. at the 1400 block of Business 83 on Sunday. McAllen police said she hit a 61-year-old man as he was walking along the road.

Cavazos left the scene but was later located.  

The victim’s identity is being held until the family members are notified.
