ATHENS, Texas (AP) - A Texas woman has pleaded guilty to shooting and killing her two young daughters in 2017.

Prosecutors declined to pursue the death penalty against 31-year-old Sarah Nicole Henderson in exchange for her guilty plea Wednesday on two counts of capital murder in the deaths of her 7- and 5-year-old daughters.

Henderson has been in custody since her arrest in November 2017 at her home near Mabank, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southeast of Dallas.

Authorities have said sheriff's deputies initially were summoned to the home about a possibly suicidal woman. They cleared the scene but authorities received a 911 call three hours later about the shooting.

KETK-TV in Tyler reported that Henderson last year sought an insanity defense but was found competent to stand trial.
