MCALLEN – The Jewish community across the country and in the Rio Grande Valley are rising up against anti-Semitism.

Members at Temple Emanuel in McAllen are getting their message out through social media. In addition, they have made some security changes of their own to stay protected.

“We are a recipient of some that hate, we being the Jewish people. And so after a couple of events, the conclusion amongst our members is we have to be more proactive to protect ourselves,” said Michael Blum, the chairman of the social action committee at the temple.

Those events range from the recent New York stabbing in a rabbi’s home during a Hanukkah celebration over the weekend to a shooting in Pittsburg.

In the Valley, a 19-year-old from Harlingen was charged with making a terroristic threat against mosques and synagogues.
