WESLACO – A Harlingen man traveled thousands of miles to help victims of Hurricane Florence.

More than 20 inches of rainfall has been reported in North and South Carolina.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with Shawn Neeley, a media director for the Louisiana Cajun Navy, about his mission.

"I saw a need that needed to be filled and I took the position when it was offered to me," says Neeley.

His mother tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he’s been in the area since before the hurricane hit.

The Cajun Navy will continue to help with rescues until recovery efforts come to a close.
