NEAR ALAMO – The Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge is still smoldering after a fire burned more than 300 acres.

Assistant fire management officer Scott Affeldt with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says they were able to keep the blaze from spreading by doing a controlled burn.

According to investigators, the fire is contained but the area for visitors is not safe.

No word yet on when the refuge is expected to reopen.
