DONNA – A court has declared Jose Ernesto Lugo, a mayoral candidate for Donna, ineligible to run for office.

Earlier this month, the city of Donna ruled Lugo ineligible to run for mayor citing he lived outside city limits. 

Lugo disputed those claims.

He then filed a lawsuit against the city of Donna and the Hidalgo County Elections Department.

On Tuesday, a judge ruled against Lugo.

Despite the ruling, Lugo’s name will remain on the ballot because it’s too close to the election to change it.
