An Edinburg native is making her hometown proud.

Dannie McCallum landed a role in the new Marvel series “Echo.” McCallum is calling her role a dream come true.

“I just keep saying, ‘I’m thankful’ because there are no other words,” McCallum said. “It’s not that it is just a once in a lifetime experience, this is just the beginning, and I need to remember that."

In “Echo,” McCallum plays the character "Tuklo," an indigenous ancestor of the show's main character.

McCallum says it’s an honor to represent her hometown and her Mexican American and indigenous heritage.

“I didn't always see myself on screen, so to be able to be that for somebody else — especially in my hometown — is an amazing experience,” McCallum said.

Her passion for acting started when she was five years old, and a member of a traveling children's theater.

She continued acting at Edinburg North High School, and studied acting in New York following her graduation in 2012.

McCallum said she hopes to inspire young actors in the Valley to pursue their dreams.

All episodes of "Echo" are now streaming on Disney+.
