DONNA – Multiple agencies are working to extinguish a fire at a palm tree grove near Donna.

Alberta Road is currently shut down as crews work to put out the blaze.

Hidalgo County Fire Investigator John Franz told CHANNEL 5 NEWS two juveniles are detained and both are being questioned about the fire. It is labeled as an arson investigation.

Around 60 firefighters responded to the scene. Donna Emergency Management Coordinator George Garret said most of the flames are out. Crews are working to make sure hot spots do not rekindle.

Homes along Alberta Road are not being evacuated. Franz said they are not in danger.

“At this time we don’t have an evacuation order or anything, but we are monitoring this closely and fire departments out here are working diligently to get this extinguished as quickly as possible,” he said.

Fire investigators remind people that if they’re going to burn anything they need to have a permit and also need to have clearance from the fire marshal’s office.

There is no word how much of the nursery is scorched.

Franz said his agency is leading the investigation.
