Surveillance cameras were rolling Saturday morning as a suspect broke into the Girl Of All Trades Tea and Coffee House in Harlingen.

GOAT Tea and Coffee House Owner Belinda Gonzalez Meyers says the suspect threw a brick at the glass door to get inside.

Surveillance cameras caught the burglar rummaging through the empty cash register, and leaving $800 in damages.

“It takes money to run a business, and it just is horrible that somebody thinks they have a right to come in and destroy something we are trying to build,” Meyers said.

Meyers said she opened the shop five years ago with a simple goal.

“Just have somewhere for the community to kind of come enjoy a cup of coffee and hang out,” Meyers said.

Meyers' coffee shop is at least the third small business in Harlingen to fall victim to burglars in the last two months.

In February, Café 406 and Little Castle Flower Shop on East Harrison Avenue were broken into.

Harlingen police have yet to name a suspect in those burglaries.

"It’s very frustrating because we all are trying to run our businesses,” Meyers said. “We are all small businesses."

Meyers says even though only a door was broken, the small business community rallied behind her.

“Everyone has reached out, and it just makes me feel so blessed all the small businesses are here to help each other,” Myers said, adding she plans on adding in more cameras outside the coffee shop.
