PROGRESO – The first wave of what’s expected to be thousands of military troops, amid a caravan's arrival, are being spotted across the Rio Grande Valley.

The exact rules for use of force by military police and other soldiers operating near the Texas-Mexico border has not been disclosed yet.

People who crossed the Progreso International Bridge Friday tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS everything seems to be business as usual.

KRGV’s Taylor Winkel reached out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection to ask if they’ve placed additional officers at the bridge.

The agency didn’t confirm nor deny our questions but sent the following statement, which reads in part:

“We will be reinforcing staffing, well in advance, to ensure that we can address any contingency, with support from inter-agency partners.

CBP’s highest priority is the safety and security of the American people, the traveling public, CBP personnel and the communities in which [they] serve.”

CBP says they continue to monitor the situation.
