NEAR MISSION – A Hidalgo County man says he’s been waiting years for lights to be installed in his neighborhood for safety.

Inocencio Pena says once the sun sets in, it’s lights out for his community located north of Mission. But what his home surveillance captures daily is more worrisome.

“The children on the block can’t play outside during or after sunset because cars speed through the area going 60 to 70 miles per hours,” he says.

KRGV’s Carolina Cruz asked a Hidalgo County Precinct 3 representative why they haven’t responded to residents’ concerns.

He says once residents in the area submit an application with the required signatures, they’ll move forward with the request.
