MCALLEN – The Rio Grande Valley does not currently have any air medical transport by helicopter but that will all change soon.

The only company that provided this service closed its doors in January, but helicopter medical service is still needed in the Valley.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas explains a fixed wing aircraft, along with EMS and pilots, saved Kasey Foster’s life.

Foster says she was inside of a McAllen hotel when it caught fire last year; she was driven by ambulance to the local hospital then flown to San Antonio by South Texas AirMed Hidalgo County EMS.

Their chief administration officer, Kenneth Ponce, says they’ll be getting a helicopter soon.

"So we're finalizing our aircraft contract with our vendor and we should have rotor service available in the next 90 to 120 days here in South Texas,” he explains.
