WESLACO – A local homeowner says she has been taxed for an extra house on her property that she didn’t have.

Maria Escobedo says she found out about the extra property tax through a real estate agent.

“I’ve noticed that they are taxing me for a greenhouse that is not on my property," says Escobedo.

She says she reached out to the appraisal district and found out she will be reimbursed the property taxes.

The Hidalgo County Appraisal District assistant chief appraiser, Jorge Gonzalez, says they have a lot of ground to cover.

Gonzalez says he looked into Escobedo’s property tax profile.

"So what we found out was that indeed there's a structure that she was being taxed for on her account that is not there. So what we’re going to do is we're going to correct it," he says.

Gonzalez says they will send Escobedo’s information in about a month and the tax office will determine how much she will be reimbursed.
