SANTA ROSA – Once again the Warriors are cruising on the hardwood thanks to a fast-paced offense that’s led them to their 14th straight district title.

“I think if you ask anybody that’s the kind of style that they like,” said Santa Rosa boys basketball coach Johnny Cipriano. “That’s the kind of game you want to play. I think it’s easy to embrace.”

Three starters from last year’s squad that reached the state tournament graduated.

The Warriors are now looking to guard A.B. Lozoya to lead the way. Although he’s not the biggest on the court, he’s got big-time game. Against Monte Alto last week, Lozoya dropped in a career-high 46 points.

“When I started off, I always looked at Leo Lara,” said Lozoya. “He was the best player and he always made me want to get better. These guys, I know they’re young but they’re good.”

“He knows that the guys that graduated aren’t here with him and he’s got to carry a little bit more of the load,” said Cipriano. “I like the way he looks for his teammates. He just knows how to play basketball. He knows when he’s open.”

The Warriors finished district play undefeated Monday night with 56-27 win over Lyford.
