Man Accused of Killing Sea Turtles Under Federal Indictment
PORT MANSFIELD – A man accused of killing sea turtles back in August is now under federal indictment.
The indictment was filed against Baldemar Veliz on Thursday.
In August, Game Wardens following a tip found Veliz in possession of turtle parts.
It happened at the Port Mansfield jetties.
According to the indictment, Veliz admitted he intentionally caught, killed and butchered sea turtles.
It's a federal misdemeanor to capture the creatures that are endangered species protected by U.S. law.
