Man Sentenced for Gun Smuggling Attempt
LAREDO – A federal judge sentenced a U.S. citizen to more than four years in prison for trying to smuggle more than a dozen weapons into Mexico.
Twenty-four year old, Iram Abel Buentello pled guilty to the smuggling charges.
Federal prosecutors said he lied to CBP officers at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge in Laredo.
He claimed to have no weapons in his truck, but during a search, officers found five rifles, two shotguns, six handguns, six magazines, and four scopes. Several of the weapons were reported stolen.
Buentello was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison.
