MCALLEN – McAllen city crews are working to repair a sinkhole. The hole opened up in the intersection of Nolana Avenue and Bentsen Road.

The incident, originally reported by the police department Wednesday afternoon, caused them to reduce traffic to one lane.

Crews estimate the hole is about three feet deep.

McAllen Streets and Drainage Manager Vincent Romero said they’re working to dig out the hole to find out what caused it. He added it seems stable and it most likely won’t grow in size.

“It is rare. But as far as a street repair, it is often we do these types of repairs. Not necessarily for sinkholes but other kinds of repairs,” he said.

Romero said it will take them a couple of days to repair the sinkhole.
