McAllen official discusses holiday parade's $1.2 million price tag
Over a dozen marching bands, 63 illuminated floats, 38 giant spinning balloons, and the Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence.
Those are just some of what the public can expect as part of the McAllen Holiday Parade set for Saturday, Dec. 7.
It’s a holiday event known for extravagance, and with $1.2 million, it has the price tag to prove it.
McAllen Assistant City Manager Joe Vera said the cost was fully covered by the parade’s 50 sponsors.

“We have the support of corporate sponsors from the region and throughout the state that support the parade, so they are the ones that provide us the funding,” Vera said.
Channel 5 News was not provided with the total amount paid by each sponsor, but Vera said some sponsorship levels start at $10,000 for a balloon, and others go up to six digits.
With thousands of people attending the parade, the city of McAllen is expecting to rake in similar proceeds as last year, which was $16 million.
“We put that into the parade fund for a rainy day fund if we would ever need some money, but it all goes right back into producing the parade,” Vera said.
