HIDALGO COUNTY--Hidalgo County plans to fix drainage near the Hidalgo County Courthouse.

It's the first of 30 planned projects. In total, the projects will cost $400 million. It'll cost $20 million to fix the drainage near the courthouse. The money comes from the state. The money will be spent over the next eight years.

Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios said the funding is something the county needed.

"We're always looking for a solution. We have great need, yet we don't have that much resources, so anytime we get a chance to get state or federal funds we have to do everything possible to ensure that we get the greatest return on investment dollar," he said.

Palacios said they will also work to improve past projects and advance the current infrastructure for the future needs.

The pre-construction process for the drainage project near the courthouse could take anymore from eight to twelve months to ensure they cause the least amount of disturbance.
