MONTE ALTO – The Department of Public Safety says no charges will be filed in the deadly auto-pedestrian incident that took the life of a teen.

The incident happened just before 10:00 p.m. Friday on Valdez Road.

Authorities say 14-year-old Servando Perez was hit by a vehicle after failing to yield the right-of-way.

A spokesperson for DPS says the driver was in his own lane and no charges will be filed.

Neighbors who live near the area of the incident say they don’t want anything like this to happen again.

Ricky Webber says he wants improvements done on the road where the teen was hit in order to prevent another tragedy near his home.

“I'm not trying to blame anybody but if we can prevent it with that little promise of a sidewalk; give the kids options. I mean it will be a lot better, I'm more than sure they will use the sidewalk," says Webber.

The Hidalgo County Precinct One worked on the road in question to fix drainage and get it paved.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the county to see if more improvement were planned following the incident.

They said they “will assess the right of way of the road and see if any other improvements can be done on it.”
