New app will allow Donna ISD parents to track their children's school bus
Donna ISD is rolling out new technology that allows parents to track school buses in real-time.
Through an app that will launch in February 2026, parents will get to see when their child is getting on the bus and the time of their drop-off.
Parents will also be notified if the bus is experiencing any delays.
Donna ISD Superintendent Angela Dominguez said parents will soon receive an email to download and launch the app on their devices.
“As students get on the bus, they swipe their ID so we know who's getting on the bus and the driver will get an alert when it’s their bus stop that says the student should be getting off at this stop,” Dominguez said.
The district said the trackers cost $325,000. After the first year, the district will pay a yearly cost of $40,000 after the first year.
The tracking app is currently being used at Muñoz Elementary as part of a pilot program. The district said the tracker will soon be implemented on the district’s 89 school buses.
