PORT ISABEL – The renovation project at the Historic Port Isabel Lighthouse is now complete.

However, it will be a few more weeks before the lighthouse is open to tourists again.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is doing a final inspection on the lighthouse.

The popular site will now feature an outdoor deck circling the top of the structure.

The project was originally scheduled to last only about five months but repairs went on for nearly a year.

The city’s marketing director tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the Texas Historical Commission had to approve every detail of the construction and that’s what delayed completion.
