WESLACO – Property owners near the border are receiving cash offers to have their land surveyed for the potential border wall.

A local property owner tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS they’ve been battling over a plot of land for 11 years.

"We've got some huge mesquite trees that been there hundreds of years. This property has been in my wife's family since 1767,” explains Noel Benavidez.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas spoke with a Texas civil rights attorney and learned some land owners are being offered as little as $100.

He explains some land owners are in the beginning stages of the process.  

"We know of about 12 lawsuits that have already been filed by the Trump Administration in the last year,” explains Ricardo Garza.
