WESLACO – Red Cross volunteers are slowly completing flood recovery efforts in the Rio Grande Valley and moving on to helping house fire victims.

We learned volunteers tend to fire victims every week.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke with one of them who says they are in need of more help.

“Lately, in the last probably two, three months, we've seen a lot of fires than we normally do. Normally, there may be one or two fires a month,” says Santana Garcia, an American Red Cross volunteer. “It's taken a toll because we only have a few qualified people to help in certain areas.”

Victims and potential volunteers can call 956-423-0523 or visit the website
