EDINBURG – South Texas Independent School District implemented security measures following several threats to their schools.

Students at South Texas Preparatory Academy and South Texas Business Education and Technology Academy, both located in Edinburg, must abide by the following rules:

  • Backpacks, duffle bags or other large bags will not be permitted on buses and on campus. Only small purses and small lunch bags are allowed.

  • No outside food will be accepted from vendors or parents.

  • Students not immediately picked up by parents will remain indoors until guardians arrive.

  • Students will be dismissed at the end of the day due to tutorials and after-school activities being canceled.

The district says all gates will be closed throughout the day.

These changes will be in effect from Monday, March 5 thru Thursday, March 8.
