WESLACO – Immigrants seeking legal status are at risk due to a lack of oversight by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

USCIS is responsible for screening health-related standards of immigrants looking for legal status.

An audit by the Office of Permanent Residents found there was a lack of policies to ensure suitable physicians were hired. Several trouble areas were uncovered, including the hiring of doctors with a history of patient abuse or a criminal record. 

The report also looked into the agency’s training standards.
