UTRGV men's basketball holds first official practice; only three returning players from last season
The UTRGV men's basketball team took to the practice court on Monday afternoon for the first time this fall.
There's a lot of change this fall for the team. Only four players are returning from last year's roster: Kwo Agwa, Jaylen Washington, Mustafo Vanjov, and Marshal Destremau. It's an almost entirely new group with the top five leaders from last season in minutes and points all having moved on during the offseason.
The team, however, is excited about the personnel that head coach Kahil Fennell and his staff have been able to bring in over the course of the offseason.
"We're long. Long defensive team, so I feel like we'll be in the gaps," Agwa said of what stands out about this year's group. "Big shooting team. I feel like everybody on the roster, the points guards to the bigs can shoot. I feel like we can stretch the floor and be better defensively, so it'll be really good this year."
"Our length, our positional versatility, but more than anything, we really try to lean into winners," Coach Fennell said of what this group is all about. "Guys that have had success winning at other programs and really value winning. They value this team collective concept."
The full schedule for UTRGV men's basketball has yet to be announced. The season is expected to start in early November.
