WESLACO – Recent heavy storms has a Rio Grande Valley produce company preparing just in case.

Employees at J & D Produce are trying to pump standing water out to clear space in case more floods occur.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with Carlos Lazcano, Surgeon Development Director at J & D Produce.

“We were pumping water for close to 24 hours and we still have one farm that we are still pumping water,” says Lazcano. "This timing, when we have excessive rain, doesn't allow us to enter into the fields to properly prepare the grounds and start seeding."

Lazcano says the rain put out four of their seven farms.

He says the price of the produce could rise if the rain doesn’t allow them to grow sufficient amounts.
