WESLACO – The Weslaco Fire Department is warning residents about an impostor going door-to-door.

The department says the person offers a free home inspection to gain access then tries to sell the homeowner a fire alarm or security system.

The person is not in uniform and does not have a marked car.

One local resident tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he's on the lookout so that he doesn't fall victim.

KRGV's Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with the public information officer for the Weslaco Police Department.

"They could be trying to pay attention, were the doors actually locked when they approached the house, whether the alarm goes off when they approach the door," explains Eric Hernandez.

If you have any information, call the fire department at 956-447-3415.
